Product Description

The Behaviour Game

Gives insight into your own behaviour and that of others.

The game is based on the work of Dr Carl Jung and Dr William Marston.
In 1921, Dr Carl Jung identified and described four personality types on the basis of four psychological functions: Thinking, feeling, perceiving and intuition. He later expanded these four functions with the bipolar dimension of Introvert vs. Extravert. The two main dichotomies of Jung’s system in particular were used for the scope of MDI.

Dr William Marston subsequently added another two dichotomies in his work entitled ‘Emotions of Normal People’: the Passive versus Active response and the Antagonistic (hostile) versus Friendly environment. On the basis of these, he developed a four-quadrant model, called DISC. According to Marston, every person displays specific behaviour in the D, I, S or C category, but tends to develop a self concept that essentially corresponds with one of the quadrants. This makes it possible to observe and describe behaviour objectively instead of subjectively and judgementally.

1. I see myself as…
2. Others see me as…
3. Interpretation of: colours, capital & small letters.

1. I see myself as…
Game objective: to gain insight into how someone sees his own behavioural style.

Rules of the game:

The behaviour game contains 105 cards. Each card describes an aspect related to behaviour.
1. The game is designed for 2 to 6 players;
2. The cards are shuffled and each player is dealt 8 cards;
3. The remaining cards are stacked face down on the table;
4. Each player takes a turn to pick up 1 card from the stack and:
4a. explains to the group why he feels that the behavioural aspect that appears on the card describes him/doesn’t describe him;
4b. from the 9 cards that the player now holds in his hands, he selects 1 card whose behavioural aspect least describes him, places it face up on the table and explains his choice;
5. The next player selects 1 card that another player had put down or 1 card from the remaining stack of unused cards;
6. Rules 4.a, 4.b and 5 are repeated until all of the cards have been discussed;
7. The game ends when each player has a hand of 8 cards displaying behavioural aspects that best describe his behaviour;
8. In closing, the players can discuss and comment on the behavioural aspects collected by each player.

2. Others see me as…
Game objective: to gain insight into how others see someone’s behavioural style.

Rules of the game:
The behaviour game contains 105 cards. Each card describes a behavioural aspect.
1. The game is designed for 2 to 6 players;
2. The cards are shuffled and each player is dealt 8 cards which he places face up on the table;
3. The remaining cards are stacked face down on the table;4. Each player takes a turn to pick up 1 card from the stack and:
4a. gives the card to another player whom he feels best matches the behavioural aspect appearing on the card and explains his choice;
4b. next, he selects a card that least describes this person, explains his choice and puts the selected card face up on the table;
5. The next player selects 1 card that another player has put down or 1 card from the remaining stack of unused cards.
6. Rules 4.a, 4.b and 5 are repeated until all of the cards have been discussed;
7. The game ends when each player holds 8 cards which the other players feel best describe this person’s behavioural aspects;
8. In closing, the players can discuss and comment on the behavioural aspects that they have assigned to one another.

3. Interpretation of: colours, capital & small letters.
Goal: to recognise someone’s behavioural style(s).

After playing game variant 1 and/or 2, the individual’s most prominent behavioural style becomes evident. The game is based on 4 behavioural styles. The extent to which a specific behavioural style is present is indicated on the cards with capital & small letters. Based on the 8 cards that the person is left with at the end of the game (variant 1 or 2), we can roughly estimate which style(s) that person uses when interacting with his environment. The different behavioural styles are described below:

1. Red:
* Capital letters: strong tendency to manage and control the environment;
* Small letters: flexible and relaxed;
2. Yellow:
* Capital letters: influences the environment through verbal and non-verbal powers of persuasion;
* Small letters: usually quiet and doesn’t enjoy selling his ideas to others;
3. Green:
* Capital letters: enjoys working according to set patterns in a slow but steady manner;
* Small letters: rapid work pace and hectic;
4. Blue:
* Capital letters: enjoys working in a precise and analytical manner according to fixed rules and procedures;
* Small letters: creative and non-conformist.

Text on the cards is both in Dutch and English
